Ingredients

  • 1 pound of high-quality bacon finely chopped
  • 1 white onion finely chopped
  • 2 cloves of garlic minced with precision
  • 1 head of fresh green cabbage cored and meticulously chopped into uniform bite-sized pieces
  • 1/2 teaspoon of paprika
  • 1/4 teaspoon of cayenne pepper optional but recommended for a mild heat profile
  • Kosher salt to taste
  • Freshly ground black pepper to taste

Instructions

  • Commence by heating a large skillet over medium heat. Carefully add the bacon and allow it to cook until it achieves a crispy texture. Once completed, transfer the bacon to a plate lined with paper towels, ensuring the bacon's fat remains in the skillet for the subsequent steps.
  • Proceed to add the chopped white onion to the skillet, allowing it to cook until it becomes soft and translucent, which should take approximately 6-8 minutes. Subsequently, incorporate the minced garlic and allow to cook for an additional minute.
  • Introduce the finely chopped green cabbage to the skillet. Concurrently, sprinkle in the paprika, the optional cayenne pepper, and season judiciously with salt and pepper.
  • With gentle and regular stirring, cook the mixture until the cabbage becomes tender and thoroughly cooked, which should be achieved in roughly 8-10 minutes.
  • Lastly, reintroduce the crispy bacon to the skillet, mixing it in to ensure uniform distribution.
  • The dish is now ready to be plated and served to discerning guests. Enjoy.
