1cupof self-rising flour
1 1/2cupsof granulated sugarseparated
1cupof whole milk
1/2teaspoonof pure vanilla extract
3cupsof blackberrieseither fresh or frozen
Instructions
Initiate by preheating the oven to a temperature of 350°F (180°C).
Transfer the liquefied salted butter into an 8-inch square culinary baking dish.
In a medium-sized mixing bowl, amalgamate 1 cup of granulated sugar with the self-rising flour. Sequentially integrate the milk and vanilla extract, ensuring a uniform mixture. Once achieved, decant the mixture into the previously prepared baking dish.
In a separate, clean mixing bowl, combine the blackberries with the remaining half-cup of granulated sugar. Gently overlay this berry mixture atop the batter in the baking dish.
Proceed to bake the composition in the preheated oven. Monitor until the top layer achieves a golden-brown hue and the fruit has softened, which should typically require 50 to 60 minutes. It is recommended to serve this dish in a warm state, preferably complemented with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
Notes
Note for bakers: In the absence of self-rising flour, one may produce a substitute by combining 1 cup of all-purpose flour with 1/2 teaspoon of salt and 1 1/2 teaspoons of baking powder.
