The essence of these Homemade Snickers lies in the quality and balance of its ingredients. Let’s break them down:

  • Milk Chocolate Chips: Opt for high-quality chocolate for a richer taste.
  • Creamy Peanut Butter: Provides a smooth, nutty layer that complements the chocolate.
  • Marshmallow Fluff: Adds a unique, airy sweetness to the nougat layer.
  • Evaporated Milk & Whipping Cream: These dairy elements bring a creamy consistency to the nougat and caramel layers.
  • Salted Peanuts: The crunch factor! Plus, the saltiness balances the sweetness.
  • Caramels: They bring the classic chewy texture and rich flavor essential to any Snickers bar.

How To Make Homemade Snickers

Crafting these Homemade Snickers is a journey through layers of flavor and texture. Let’s dive into the step-by-step process:

  • Layer 1: The foundation. Melting chocolate and peanut butter together, then spreading it in a pan sets the stage.
  • Layer 2: Creating the nougat. It’s all about gently cooking butter, sugar, and milk, then blending in marshmallow fluff, peanut butter, and vanilla. The chopped peanuts added here are the surprise crunch in the soft nougat.
  • Layer 3: The caramel layer, a mixture of caramel and cream, brings a gooey sweetness that is the heart of any Snickers bar.
  • Layer 4: Topping it off with another layer of melted chocolate and peanut butter seals in all the flavors.

Storage Options

For storing these Homemade Snickers, an airtight container is key to maintaining freshness. They last up to a week at room temperature, making them a great make-ahead treat for events. For a firmer texture, you can also store them in the refrigerator. Just be sure to let them sit at room temperature for a bit before serving, for that perfect chewy bite.

Variations and Substitutions

Personalizing your Homemade Snickers can be a delightful experiment. Here are some ideas:

  • Nut Variations: Swap out peanuts for almonds, cashews, or even a nut-free option like seeds.
  • Dairy-Free Alternatives: Use dairy-free chocolate and nut milk for a vegan-friendly version.
  • Sweetener Adjustments: Replace granulated sugar with coconut sugar or a sugar-free alternative for a healthier twist.
  • Flavor Twists: Add a dash of sea salt on top or mix in some peanut butter chips for extra flavor layers.

Ingredients

Layer One:

  • 1 ¼ cups of Milk Chocolate Chips
  • ¼ cup of Creamy Peanut Butter

Layer Two:

  • ¼ cup of Unsalted Butter
  • 1 cup of Granulated Sugar
  • 7 ounces of Marshmallow Fluff
  • ¼ cup of Creamy Peanut Butter
  • ¼ cup of Evaporated Milk
  • 1 teaspoon of Vanilla Extract
  • 1 cup of Salted Peanuts coarsely chopped

Layer Three:

  • 14 ounces of Caramels Kraft caramel bits recommended
  • ¼ cup of Whipping Cream

Layer Four:

  • 1 cup of Milk Chocolate Chips
  • ¼ cup of Creamy Peanut Butter

Instructions

Preparation of Layer One:

  • Begin by lining a 9×13 inch pan with either foil or parchment paper, ensuring it is lightly coated with non-stick cooking spray. Proceed to melt the chocolate chips and peanut butter together in a microwave-safe bowl at 50% power. The initial heating should last for one minute, followed by stirring. Continue this process in 30-second intervals until the mixture is fully melted.
  • Once melted, evenly distribute the chocolate mixture into the prepared pan. This should then be placed in the refrigerator for approximately 20 minutes to allow for solidification.

Preparation of Layer Two:

  • Utilize a medium-sized saucepan to melt the butter over medium heat. Following this, incorporate the sugar and milk, stirring continuously until the sugar is completely dissolved. Bring this mixture to a boil and allow it to cook for five minutes with occasional stirring. Subsequently, add the marshmallow fluff, peanut butter, and vanilla extract, stirring until the mixture attains a smooth consistency.
  • Remove the saucepan from the heat. Fold in the chopped peanuts, then spread this nougat filling over the previously prepared chocolate layer. This should be left to cool thoroughly.

Preparation of Layer Three:

  • In a microwave-safe bowl, combine the caramels and whipping cream. Microwave at 50% power for 30 seconds, then stir. Continue this process in 30-second intervals until the caramel is smooth and thoroughly melted. An alternative method is to melt the caramel and cream over low heat in a saucepan. Once melted, pour this over the nougat layer and allow it to cool completely.

Preparation of Layer Four:

  • Melt the remaining chocolate chips and peanut butter in a microwave-safe bowl using the previously mentioned method (50% power, stirring at 30-second intervals). Once melted, pour this final layer over the caramel layer, spreading it to form an even coating.
  • Refrigerate the pan for a minimum of one hour or until the mixture is firm. After firming, remove the entire square from the pan, gently peeling away the foil. The bars can then be cut into desired shapes and sizes.
  • The finished Snickers bars should be stored in a covered container, where they will remain fresh for up to one week.
