Ingredients Notes
Crafting the perfect batch of air fryer zucchini chips is all about the quality and preparation of your ingredients. Here are some key tips to keep in mind:
- Zucchini: Choose a large, firm zucchini for uniform slices that crisp up nicely.
- Parmesan Cheese: Grated Parmesan melts beautifully and adds a rich, savory flavor that complements the mild zucchini.
- Cooking Spray: Opt for avocado oil spray for its high smoke point, making it ideal for air frying.
- Seasonings: Simple salt and ground pepper enhance the natural flavors without overpowering them.
How To Make Air Fryer Zucchini Chips
Let’s make snacking exciting and healthy! Follow these detailed steps to ensure your air fryer zucchini chips turn out perfectly crispy and delicious:
- Preparation: Start by slicing your zucchini into consistent ¼ inch rounds. A mandolin is ideal for this job to get even, thin slices that will crisp up nicely.
- Salting: Lightly salt the zucchini slices and let them sit for a few minutes. This step draws out excess moisture, which is crucial for achieving that sought-after crispiness. Pat them dry with paper towels afterwards, and then season with ground pepper to taste.
- Arranging in Air Fryer: Spray the air fryer tray with avocado oil to prevent sticking. Arrange the zucchini slices in a single layer, ensuring they don’t overlap. Overlapping can steam the zucchini instead of crisping it.
- Cooking: Sprinkle a generous amount of Parmesan cheese over the zucchini slices before cooking. Set the air fryer to 370°F and cook the slices in batches for 8-10 minutes or until they are golden and crispy.
- Cooling: Allow the chips to cool in the tray for 2-3 minutes after cooking. This extra time helps them crisp up even further, enhancing their texture.
Storage Options
Air fryer zucchini chips are best enjoyed fresh, but if you have leftovers, store them in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days. They might lose some crispiness, so just pop them back in the air fryer for a few minutes to revive their texture before serving.
Variations and Substitutions
Want to tweak the air fryer zucchini chips recipe to suit your taste or accommodate what you have on hand? Here are some creative ideas:
- Cheese Variations: Swap Parmesan for Asiago or nutritional yeast for a vegan option.
- Seasonings: Mix up the flavors with garlic powder, smoked paprika, or a sprinkle of cayenne for a kick.
- Herbs: Add dried herbs like thyme or rosemary before cooking for an aromatic twist.
- Vegan Friendly: Omit the cheese or use a vegan cheese alternative to cater to dietary restrictions.
With these tips and variations, you're all set to make air fryer zucchini chips that are sure to be a hit, whether you're snacking solo or hosting a crowd!

Instructions
- Preparation of Zucchini: Utilize a mandolin slicer to ensure the zucchini is evenly sliced into thin rounds. This uniformity is crucial for consistent cooking and crispiness.
- Salting: Arrange the zucchini slices in a single layer and lightly sprinkle them with salt. Allow them to rest for several minutes to extract excess moisture. Subsequently, use paper towels to pat the slices dry thoroughly, then season them with ground black pepper to enhance their flavor.
- Air Fryer Preparation: Lightly coat the air fryer basket with avocado oil cooking spray to prevent sticking and ensure even cooking.
- Arrangement of Zucchini Slices: Place the zucchini rounds in a single layer within the air fryer basket, ensuring they do not overlap to facilitate even air circulation and crispiness.
- Adding Cheese: Evenly distribute the grated Parmesan cheese over the zucchini slices before beginning the cooking process.
- Cooking Process: Set the air fryer to a temperature of 370°F (187°C). Cook the zucchini in batches for approximately 8-10 minutes, or until the cheese has turned golden brown and the zucchini slices have achieved the desired level of crispiness.
