- Seasoning Blend: Opt for a high-quality Italian herb seasoning for the best flavor, or customize your own blend with favorites like oregano, basil, and thyme.
- Chicken Thighs: Using boneless, skinless chicken thighs ensures the meat stays juicy and tender, perfect for absorbing the creamy sauce.

- Heavy Cream and Chicken Broth: The combination of these liquids creates a rich base for the sauce that is both flavorful and luxurious.
How To Make Creamy Garlic Chicken
Let’s dive into the steps to make your "Creamy Garlic Chicken" a scrumptious success:
- Start by mixing your dry ingredients—Italian herb seasoning, salt, pepper, granulated garlic, and flour—in a resealable plastic bag. This mixture not only flavors the chicken but also gives it a delightful crust.
- Next, heat butter and olive oil in a skillet. The combination of these fats adds depth to the dish's flavor.
- Coat your chicken thighs evenly in the seasoned flour mixture, then sear them in the skillet until golden and cooked through. This step is crucial for locking in the juices. After removing the chicken, use the same skillet to sauté the garlic just until fragrant—this infuses the oil and forms the base of your sauce.
- Pour in the cream and broth, scraping up any browned bits from the pan, which are packed with flavor. Let this simmer until thickened, then return the chicken to the pan to soak up the delicious, creamy sauce.
- A final garnish of fresh parsley adds a touch of freshness, completing this dish with elegance and simplicity.
Storage Options
Storing "Creamy Garlic Chicken" is straightforward, ensuring you can enjoy this delightful meal beyond just one dinner.
- Refrigerate: Keep leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat gently on the stove or in the microwave, adding a splash of cream or broth to refresh the sauce.
- Freeze: For longer storage, freeze portions in airtight containers for up to 2 months. Thaw in the refrigerator overnight before reheating as above.
Variations and Substitutions
Whether accommodating dietary preferences or just mixing things up, here are some handy tweaks for the "Creamy Garlic Chicken" recipe.
- Dairy-Free: Swap the heavy cream for a dairy-free alternative like coconut cream or a rich almond milk. These substitutes add a unique twist while maintaining the creamy texture.
- Different Proteins: Not a fan of chicken thighs? Use chicken breasts, pork chops, or even shrimp as delicious alternatives.
- Extra Veggies: Boost the nutritional value by adding mushrooms, spinach, or sun-dried tomatoes during the sautéing of the garlic.
- Herb Variations: Feel free to experiment with different herbs such as rosemary or thyme to vary the flavor profile according to your taste.

Servings: 4
Ingredients
- 1 teaspoon of Italian herb seasoning or a preferred blend of equivalent herbs
- ½ teaspoon of salt adjusted to taste
- ¼ teaspoon of freshly ground black pepper adjusted to taste
- ¼ teaspoon of granulated garlic
- ¼ cup of all-purpose flour
- 2 pounds of skinless boneless chicken thighs
- 2 tablespoons of unsalted butter
- 2 tablespoons of olive oil
- 8 cloves of garlic peeled and smashed (approximately ¼ cup lightly packed)
- 1 cup of heavy cream
- 1 cup of chicken broth
- 1 tablespoon of freshly chopped parsley optional, for garnish
Instructions
- Seasoning Preparation: Begin by combining the Italian herb seasoning, salt, black pepper, granulated garlic, and flour in a 1-gallon resealable plastic bag. Shake the bag gently to ensure the ingredients are thoroughly mixed.
- Cooking the Chicken: In a large nonstick skillet, melt the butter with the olive oil over medium heat. While the fats are warming, pat the chicken thighs dry with paper towels. Place the chicken in the bag with the seasoned flour, seal the bag, and shake well to coat the chicken evenly. Once the butter and oil mixture has stopped sizzling, place the chicken pieces in the skillet. Cook each side for approximately 4 to 5 minutes until the chicken is well-browned, fully cooked through, and an instant-read thermometer inserted near the center reads 165 degrees Fahrenheit (74 degrees Celsius). Transfer the chicken to a plate and keep it warm.
- Sauce Preparation: Utilize the same skillet to cook the smashed garlic. Lower the heat to medium-low and sauté the garlic, stirring frequently, until it is just fragrant, which should take no longer than 1 minute. Following the garlic, pour in the heavy cream, using a wooden spoon to scrape up any browned bits from the bottom of the pan as these add significant flavor to the sauce. Stir in the chicken broth, then increase the heat to medium and bring the mixture to a boil. Continue to cook, stirring occasionally, until the sauce has reduced by half, which should take about 10 minutes.
- Final Assembly: Taste the garlic cream sauce and adjust the seasoning if necessary. Return the cooked chicken to the skillet and stir gently to coat it in the sauce. Allow the chicken to heat through thoroughly. If using, sprinkle with freshly chopped parsley before serving to add a fresh, herbal brightness to the dish.
