Ingredient Notes

Every great recipe starts with great ingredients, and this Florida Shrimp Pie is no exception. Here’s a closer look at what goes into this dish and why each component matters:

• Frozen Deep Dish Pie Crust: A time-saving hero! Using a pre-made crust ensures a flaky, buttery base without the hassle of making dough from scratch.
• Chive-and-Onion Cream Cheese Spread: This adds a creamy, tangy flavor with a hint of herbiness, eliminating the need for additional seasoning.
• Eggs: They act as the binding agent, giving the filling its rich, custard-like texture.
• Cooked Shrimp: Frozen and pre-cooked shrimp are a convenient option, but make sure to thaw and drain them well to avoid excess moisture.
• Pepper Jack Cheese: This adds a subtle kick of spice and melts beautifully, creating a gooey, flavorful layer in every bite.

How To Make Florida Shrimp Pie

Ready to whip up this delicious pie? Don’t worry—it’s easier than you think! Follow these step-by-step instructions to create a dish that’s sure to impress.

1. Preheat and Prep: Start by placing a cookie sheet on the oven rack and preheating your oven to 375°F. This ensures even baking and catches any potential spills. Let the pie crust thaw for 10-20 minutes, then prick the bottom and sides with a fork to prevent air bubbles. Bake it for 9-11 minutes until lightly golden. This step ensures a crisp crust that won’t get soggy from the filling.
2. Make the Filling: While the crust bakes, grab a medium bowl and beat the chive-and-onion cream cheese until it’s smooth and creamy. Add the eggs one at a time, whisking thoroughly after each addition to create a silky, well-blended mixture. Fold in the chopped shrimp and shredded pepper Jack cheese, ensuring everything is evenly distributed.
3. Assemble and Bake: Pour the filling into the pre-baked crust and smooth the top. Bake on the cookie sheet for 30-35 minutes, or until the center is set and the top is lightly golden. Let it stand for 15 minutes before slicing—this allows the filling to firm up and makes serving a breeze.

Keeping It Fresh: Storage and Reheating Tips

Wondering what to do with leftovers (if there are any!)? Here’s how to store and reheat your Florida Shrimp Pie to keep it tasting as good as new:

• Refrigeration: Store any leftover pie in an airtight container or tightly wrapped in plastic wrap. It will stay fresh in the fridge for up to 3 days.
• Freezing: For longer storage, wrap individual slices in plastic wrap and aluminum foil, then freeze for up to 2 months. Thaw in the fridge overnight before reheating.
• Reheating: To retain the crust’s flakiness, reheat slices in the oven at 350°F for 10-15 minutes. For a quicker option, use the microwave, but be aware the crust may soften.

Variations and Substitutions

Love the idea of this pie but want to make it your own? Here are some fun twists and substitutions to suit your taste or pantry:

• Cheese Swap: Not a fan of pepper Jack? Try cheddar, mozzarella, or even a smoky Gouda for a different flavor profile.
• Protein Options: Swap shrimp for crab meat, cooked chicken, or even sautéed veggies for a vegetarian version.
• Crust Alternatives: Use a gluten-free pie crust or a puff pastry sheet for a lighter, flakier base.
• Add-Ins: Toss in some diced bell peppers, spinach, or artichoke hearts for extra texture and flavor.
• Spice It Up: Add a dash of hot sauce or a pinch of cayenne pepper for a spicier kick.

If you’re still on the fence about trying this Florida Shrimp Pie, let me give you a little nudge. This dish is the perfect marriage of simplicity and sophistication. It’s easy enough for a weeknight dinner but fancy enough to serve at a dinner party. The creamy, cheesy filling paired with tender shrimp and a flaky crust is a flavor combo that’s hard to resist. Ingredients

1x2x3x

• ▢ 1 crust from 1 package 12 oz frozen Pillsbury™ Deep Dish Pie Crusts (2 Count)
• ▢ ½ cup chive-and-onion cream cheese spread from an 8-oz container
• ▢ 4 large eggs
• ▢ 12 oz frozen cooked deveined peeled medium shrimp thawed, well drained, and coarsely chopped, tail shells removed
• ▢ ½ cup shredded pepper Jack cheese 2 oz

Instructions

• Prepare the Oven and Pie Crust: Begin by placing a cookie sheet on the middle rack of the oven. Preheat the oven to 375°F. Allow one pie crust to thaw at room temperature for 10 to 20 minutes. Once thawed, use a fork to thoroughly prick the bottom and sides of the crust to prevent air bubbles during baking. Place the crust on the cookie sheet and bake for 9 to 11 minutes, or until it turns a very light golden brown. Remove from the oven and set aside.
• Prepare the Filling: In a medium-sized mixing bowl, use a whisk or an electric mixer to beat the chive-and-onion cream cheese spread until it becomes smooth and creamy. Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition to ensure the mixture is fully blended and smooth. Gently stir in the chopped shrimp and shredded pepper Jack cheese until evenly distributed throughout the mixture.
• Assemble and Bake the Pie: Carefully pour the prepared filling into the pre-baked pie crust, ensuring it is evenly spread. Place the pie on the cookie sheet and bake in the preheated oven for 30 to 35 minutes, or until the center is set and the top is lightly golden.
• Cool and Serve: Once baked, remove the pie from the oven and allow it to stand at room temperature for 15 minutes. This resting period ensures the filling sets properly and makes slicing easier. Serve warm and enjoy.
