Ingredient Notes

The French Onion Chicken Bake is a testament to the magic that can happen with a few well-chosen ingredients. Here are some notes to make the most out of them:

• Chicken Breasts: Opt for evenly sized breasts to ensure uniform cooking. If they are too thick, consider pounding them slightly for quicker and even cooking.
• French Onion Soup: A can of good quality French onion soup enriches the dish with a deep, savory flavor, so choose a brand you trust.
• Light Mozzarella: Using reduced-fat mozzarella keeps the dish lighter while still providing that delightful cheesy topping.
• Seasonings: Simple seasonings like paprika, garlic powder, and salt perfectly enhance the natural flavors of the chicken without overpowering the dish.

How To Make French Onion Chicken Bake

Let's dive into the simplicity of making the French Onion Chicken Bake, ensuring every step is easy to follow for a foolproof cooking experience.

1. Preparation: Start by preheating your oven to 350°F, setting the stage for a perfectly baked dish.
2. Sauté Onions: Melt light butter in a skillet and sauté the sliced onions until translucent—a crucial step for building the flavor foundation.
3. Season and Brown the Chicken: Season the chicken breasts evenly and brown them in the same skillet. This not only adds a depth of flavor but also locks in the juices.
4. Combine Ingredients: Add the sautéed onions back to the skillet with the chicken, pour in the French onion soup, and let it simmer briefly to thicken slightly, ensuring the chicken is coated in the flavorful sauce.
5. Bake: If using a cast-iron skillet, sprinkle mozzarella directly over the chicken. Otherwise, transfer everything to a baking dish, top with cheese, and bake until the cheese is bubbly and golden.
