Ingredients Notes
When whipping up this Honey Garlic Chicken Breasts, every ingredient counts, and here’s how to make the most of them:
- Chicken Breast: Opt for fresh, boneless, skinless breasts for best results. If thicker, slice them horizontally for quicker cooking.
- Garlic: Freshly sliced garlic will give you a better flavor than pre-minced varieties. Don’t skimp here; the garlic is integral to the flavor profile.
- Honey: The quality of honey can affect the sweetness and depth of your sauce. A good quality honey will add a rich, floral sweetness that balances the soy sauce beautifully.
- Soy Sauce: For depth and umami, choose a good soy sauce. Low-sodium soy sauce is a great option if you’re watching your salt intake.
- Butter and Olive Oil: A combination of both gives a nice richness to the dish and helps brown the chicken beautifully.
How To Make Honey Garlic Chicken Breasts
Let’s break down the Honey Garlic Chicken Breasts recipe into detailed steps to ensure you get that perfect golden-brown finish and deliciously sticky sauce every time:
- Preparation: Start by heating olive oil and butter in a large pan. This combination allows the chicken not only to cook but to acquire a deliciously rich flavor and golden color.
- Chicken Prep: Slice the chicken breast in half lengthwise to get thinner pieces that cook evenly and quickly. Season well with salt and pepper, then dredge in flour. This helps in forming a delightful crust that will later help thicken our sauce.
- Cooking Chicken: Place the chicken in the pan and let it cook until golden on each side and nearly cooked through. Remove and set aside, keeping all those lovely juices.
- Making the Sauce: Add more butter to the pan and stir in the garlic, cooking until fragrant—this is where the magic starts! Deglaze with soy sauce and vinegar, then stir in the honey. Simmer until the sauce thickens enough to coat the back of a spoon.
- Finishing Touches: Return the chicken to the pan, coat with the sauce, and heat through. The result? Beautifully glazed chicken that’s ready to impress.

Recipe Card
Honey Garlic Chicken Breasts
Ingredients
- 1 tablespoon of olive oil
- 2 tablespoons of butter divided
- 1 pound of boneless skinless chicken breasts
- ¼ cup of all-purpose flour
- 6 cloves of garlic thinly sliced
- ¼ cup of soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon of seasoned rice vinegar
- ⅓ cup of honey
- Kosher salt to taste
- Freshly cracked black pepper to taste
- Green onions thinly sliced, for garnish
Instructions
- Preparation of Cooking Medium: Begin by heating one tablespoon of olive oil and one tablespoon of butter in a large frying pan over medium to medium-high heat.
- Preparation of Chicken: Proceed by slicing the chicken breast in half lengthwise to create four thinner pieces. Season each piece uniformly with kosher salt and freshly cracked black pepper. Following seasoning, dredge the chicken thoroughly in all-purpose flour, ensuring each piece is evenly coated.
- Cooking of Chicken: Place the flour-coated chicken pieces into the preheated pan. Allow them to cook for approximately 4-5 minutes on each side or until they achieve a golden brown crust and are nearly cooked through. Once achieved, remove the chicken from the pan and set aside, reserving any juices that have accumulated.
- Sauce Preparation: In the same pan, add the remaining tablespoon of butter. Reduce the heat to medium-low, allowing the butter to foam before adding the thinly sliced garlic. Stir the garlic continuously for 30-60 seconds, ensuring it becomes fragrant but does not brown.
- Deglazing and Sauce Finalization: Introduce the soy sauce and seasoned rice vinegar to the pan to deglaze it, carefully scraping up any flavorful bits that have adhered to the bottom. Add the honey to the mixture along with a few pinches of black pepper and a small pinch of salt. Allow the sauce to simmer over medium-low heat for about 4-5 minutes, or until it thickens sufficiently to coat the back of a spoon.
- Combining Chicken with Sauce: Return the previously cooked chicken along with any collected juices to the pan. Let the chicken simmer in the sauce for an additional minute or until thoroughly warmed through.
- Serving: Serve the chicken garnished with thinly sliced green onions to enhance the visual appeal and add a fresh, crisp flavor contrast to the dish.
