• Versatility at Its Best: Whether it's a casual family gathering or an elegant party, these haystacks fit right in.
• Customizable to the Core: Love nuts? Add them in! Prefer a nut-free version? Just as delightful.
• Memory Maker: Beyond the flavors, it's a recipe that bonds - perfect for creating kitchen memories with loved ones.

Ingredients Notes

Crafting these Slow Cooker Butterscotch Haystacks is like painting with flavors; each ingredient plays a crucial role.

• Butterscotch Chips (11 ounces): The heart of the recipe, these chips melt into a silky, sweet concoction.
• Peanut Butter (½ cup): Adds a creamy, nutty dimension. Opt for smooth peanut butter for a uniform texture.
• Crispy Chow Mein Noodles (4 cups): The crunch factor! These noodles are the scaffold that holds our haystacks together.
• Roasted Peanuts (½ cup, optional): For the nut enthusiasts, these add an extra layer of crunch and flavor.

How To Make Slow Cooker Butterscotch Haystacks

Let's embark on a culinary adventure to create these delightful treats.

• Step 1: Begin by preparing your workspace. Line a baking sheet with parchment or wax paper, setting the stage for our haystacks.
• Step 2: In a large microwave-safe bowl, combine butterscotch chips and peanut butter. Heat at 50% power for 1 minute, stirring at 30-second intervals until the mixture is dreamily smooth.
• Step 3: If you're a fan of peanuts, now's the time to stir them in. Then, gradually introduce the chow mein noodles to the butterscotch mixture. Ensure each noodle gets a generous coating. Using two forks, artistically drop mounds of this mixture onto your prepared pan.
• Step 4: The final act involves patience - chill your creations for 30 minutes, or until they've set into their iconic haystack shape.

Storage Options

Once your butterscotch haystacks have set, they're not just ready to be devoured but also to be stored, if you can resist! Keep them in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week. For a longer shelf life, refrigerate them, and they'll stay fresh for up to three weeks. And if you're really planning ahead, freeze them in a single layer and transfer to a freezer bag, they'll last for up to three months.

Variations and Substitutions

Variety is the spice of life, and these haystacks are no exception.

• Swap Butterscotch for Chocolate: For a chocolatey twist, replace butterscotch chips with the same amount of chocolate chips.
• Nut Butter Alternatives: Not a peanut butter fan? Almond butter or sunflower seed butter are great alternatives.
• Add-Ins: Feeling adventurous? Mix in some mini marshmallows, raisins, or even a sprinkle of sea salt for an extra flavor kick.
• Nut-Free Version: Simply skip the peanuts for an allergy-friendly treat.
