How To Make Bang Bang Chicken Skewers

Let's break down the recipe for Bang Bang Chicken Skewers into manageable steps:

1. Skewer Preparation: Start by soaking your skewers in water if they're wooden to prevent burning during grilling.
2. Sauce Creation: Mix mayonnaise, sweet chili sauce, sour cream, honey, and hot sauce. This concoction will be the star flavor of your dish, so make sure it’s well combined and chilled until needed.
3. Season the Chicken: Toss the chicken pieces in spices ensuring each piece is evenly coated. This step is crucial for infusing the chicken with flavors that will develop during cooking.
4. Skewering the Chicken: Thread the seasoned chicken onto the skewers. This not only makes for even cooking but also perfect portions for serving.
5. Sauce Application: Brush the skewers with some of the Bang Bang sauce before grilling. Remember to keep extra sauce for serving; it’s great for dipping!
6. Grilling to Perfection: Grill the skewers at a high temperature to get that delightful char and ensure the chicken is cooked through to safe internal temperatures.
7. Serve and Enjoy: Once grilled to perfection, serve your skewers hot and with extra dipping sauce on the side.

Storage Options

For those wondering about leftovers, Bang Bang Chicken Skewers store remarkably well:

• Refrigerate: Place in a covered container and refrigerate for up to three days.
• Freeze: For longer storage, wrap the skewers well or place them in an airtight container and freeze. They can be reheated in the oven or on the grill for a quick and delicious meal.

Variations and Substitutions

Customize your Bang Bang Chicken Skewers to fit your taste or pantry:

• Protein Swap: Not a fan of chicken? Try shrimp or tofu for an equally tasty alternative.
• Sauce Adjustments: For a less spicy version, reduce the hot sauce or for a dairy-free option, use coconut cream instead of sour cream.
• Herb Additions: Add cilantro or parsley to the sauce or as a garnish for an extra layer of flavor.
• Vegetable Additions: Include bell peppers or onions on the skewers for added crunch and color.

This approach to cooking not only brings variety but ensures that the Bang Bang Chicken Skewers can be a favorite for everyone, regardless of their dietary preferences or spice tolerance!

Ingredients

1x2x3x

For the Bang Bang Sauce:

• ▢ ¾ cup of mayonnaise
• ▢ ½ cup of sweet chili sauce
• ▢ ¼ cup of sour cream
• ▢ 2 tablespoons of honey
• ▢ 2 teaspoons of hot sauce Frank's sauce recommended

For the Chicken:

• ▢ 2 boneless skinless chicken breasts, approximately 1.5 pounds, cut into 1-inch cubes
• ▢ 1 teaspoon of kosher salt
• ▢ 1 teaspoon of smoked paprika
• ▢ 1 teaspoon of garlic powder
• ▢ 1 teaspoon of dry mustard powder
• ▢ 1 teaspoon of onion powder
• ▢ ½ teaspoon of ground black pepper

Instructions

• Preparation of Skewers: If utilizing wooden skewers, commence by immersing them in water for a minimum of 30 minutes to prevent burning during the grilling process.
• Sauce Preparation: In a small mixing bowl, combine the mayonnaise, sweet chili sauce, sour cream, honey, and hot sauce. Stir the mixture thoroughly until all ingredients are well amalgamated. Refrigerate the sauce until it is required for use.
• Seasoning the Chicken: In a sizable mixing bowl, deposit the chicken pieces. Sprinkle the kosher salt, smoked paprika, garlic powder, dry mustard powder, onion powder, and ground black pepper over the chicken. Utilize clean hands or a utensil to ensure that the chicken pieces are uniformly coated with the seasoning blend.
• Assembling the Skewers: Thread approximately six pieces of the seasoned chicken onto each skewer, preparing them for grilling.
• Sauce Application for Cooking: Transfer approximately ¼ cup of the prepared Bang Bang sauce into a separate bowl. This precaution is crucial as the sauce will be used to brush onto the raw chicken skewers, and the brush may become contaminated. Reserve the remaining sauce for serving.
• Pre-grilling Refrigeration: Coat all sides of the chicken skewers with the separated Bang Bang sauce. It is advisable to refrigerate the prepared skewers for 30 minutes to 2 hours. If opting to refrigerate overnight, cover the skewers with plastic wrap to maintain freshness.
• Grilling the Skewers: Preheat the grill to a temperature between 400 and 425 degrees Fahrenheit. Place the skewers on the grill and allow them to cook for 4 minutes. Afterward, turn the skewers over and continue to grill for an additional 4 minutes. Should the chicken not reach an internal temperature of 165 degrees Fahrenheit or still display pinkness, extend the cooking time by an additional 2 to 4 minutes, depending on the size of the chicken pieces.
• Serving: Remove the skewers from the grill and serve immediately. Accompany the skewers with the reserved Bang Bang sauce for dipping.
